5 TERRE and PORTOVENERE TOUR

The Cinque Terre is one of the most pristine natural areas of the Tirrena coast. Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso are the five villages that make up the Cinque Terre, suspended between sea and earth, clinging on to cliffs. The territory is characterized by five miles of rocky coast, where beaches in secluded bays alternate , enclosed by two headlands. The wine-growing, typical of the area, helped to create a unique landscape with typical dry stone walls that adorn the steep hills the vineyards growing on terraces hewn from the hillside. The Cinque Terre are a National Park and since 1997 a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site together with Porto Venere. This last village is a spectacular medieval center that is located at the widest part of the western Gulf of La Spezia, whose name comes from a temple in honor of the Roman Goddess Venus. Today Portovenere is loved by the tourists who visit it for its simple, but very evocative landscapes, for its multi-colored houses-towers arranged in parallel rows and again for the majesty of its lanes. One of the most fascinating places in Porto Venere is the Byron Grotta, named after the famous English poet of the nineteenth century.
