CORTONA and MONTEPULCIANO tour

Cortona is surrounded by walls that are still visible featuring both Etruscan and Roman stones; it was built on a hill that reaches 600 meters in height. This elevated position ensures a good views from different points of the village and you can admire the beautiful landscapes of the Val di Chiana, seeing also the Trasimeno lake. Several small shops selling handicrafts and local food are on the main streets of the village center.
More than 3,000 years of history make Cortona one of the most unique and fascinating cities in central Italy and one of the ideal destinations in order to understand italic origins; a visit to Cortona is not only to go to churches or museums, but also to walk the steep streets, breath the smell of burning wood in the fireplaces used, even today, both for keeping warm and for cooking.
Montepulciano is situated at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, at the junction of two valleys, the Orcia and the Chiana. The city center, whose origins extend back to Roman times, spread along a street that climbs up the hill reaching the central square, Piazza Grande: here you can admire the Cathedral, the Town Hall and the many Renaissance palaces that line the square. The square and streets nearby were also the location for the movie "New Moon," the sequel to "Twilight", based on the famous novel by Stephenie Meyer. Montepulciano certainly owes a large part of its fame to the wine (Nobile di Montepulciano) that today is also one of the leading sectors of its economy.
